Each therapist works in their own way, but for me, our work will be based on the relationship we develop during our sessions. At the start this will mostly be talking about what's bringing you to therapy at this point in your life. The development of trust in our working relationship is as important as the things you want to explore in our sessions.
That's a good question. It's really important to find a therapist that you feel you can work with. That's why the initial consultation is so important. It gives us both an opportunity to see if we could work together.
I offer a non-judgemental space in therapy to explore whatever you would like to discuss. I am also very mindful of issues around personal differences, and open to exploring these in our work, if that feels important. I am especially interested in topics around gender, sexuality and non-normative lives.
The initial consultation is an opportunity for us to meet and discuss what's bringing you to therapy at this point in your life, and what you may be looking to achieve. It's slightly different from a regular therapy session as I'll be asking some questions about you and your history. It's also a chance for you to ask questions about me and how I work.
After the initial consultation, you can then decide if you would like to start therapy sessions with me. At that point we can then discuss dates and times. Sometimes, I may think a therapist with a different approach may be more suitable for you to work with.
